The book came to an end. And I did too. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions and I didn't even like the book at the beginning! So, let me give you a brief introduction of the book. About the Night by Anat Talshir is about a forbidden love story. In 1947, in Jerusalem a Jewish woman named Lila and an Arab man named Elias fell in love and kept it a secret. Later on, a war broke out between the two cultures in the city and their love was parted. After nearly 20 years they met again and found that things have changed but also have not changed. The story is told in 2006, when Elias is in the hospital and tells his love story.Where should I start... I bought this book about a year ago and never found the time to read it. To be honest, the description about the book did not appeal to me. I usually don't read such books. But I finally started it. The beginning wasn't for me and it confused me a little bit that the author switched between the year 2006 and 1947 and following years. Something that also bothered me, was that the chapters were really really long! But I got used to it and in the end, it was no problem anymore.I would have never thought that I would enjoy this book so much. It started out very slow and I kind of did not like the love story between Elias and Lila. It seemed unrealistic to me. But the more I read and the more I got to know both of them, the more I enjoyed the book. The love both of them share is so unique. It filled my heart with warmth and it does make you belief in true love. Because of the war, they were separated, but this shows us that not even war can make love vanish or destroy it. Both kept going in order to see each other again! That bit made me really emotional...For me Lila is kind of a hopeless romantic in some way. She always believes in the one true love. I mean she is sometimes even a bit naive, because she thinks that Elias would never ever give up on her even if they are parted nearly 20 years. In my opinion this is really naive, because that's nearly impossible. I mean I think I would believe in the same thing because when you love a man like Lila loves Elias you only see the good in him. Not that this is bad, it's kind of good to believe in the good in people. But Lila is kind and an independent woman. She knows what she wants. Elias is a kind gentleman and I don't think I have to say much more about him. He fights for his love even when he screwed up. The last person I want to talk about is Nomi. I think she is a very important woman in this book. We see her in the book as a girl and also as a woman. She loves Lila like a mother and helps Elias in his fight for her. She's such a pure girl who just wants to be loved and accepted. As a woman she visits Elias in the hospital and he tells her the story of Lila and him.As I said before this book was a rollercoaster of emotions. At the last few chapters I always had tears in my eyes because I could feel the love and the pain both of them felt. This book is magical. It's a love story I have never read about before. A wonderful book and I loved it!

An absolute page turner in a silent and beautifully worded way....I was absorbed by the lovestory of Lila, a Jewish woman, and Elias, a Christian Arab....all set in Jerusalem before and after the 6 days war. Fascinating and highly inspiring that love is possible unconditionally between man and woman and not only between parents and their children.

A history of a love combined with the history of a city, orlando rather two cities. Breathtaking. You won't pur Thema book away until you haven't finished it.

Great literature - about life, love, men and women ...gentle, sensitive, not loud - all I expect of a good book
